Low-impact remediation of a historical crude oil release within a sensitive wetland environment in Jasper National Park.
Hydrocarbon impacts from a historical pipeline release extended across approximately 9,000 m² within a wetland adjacent to a river, requiring a remediation approach that minimized disturbance while meeting regulatory and stakeholder expectations.
Alta Tech developed a low-impact remediation strategy supported by detailed site investigation and stakeholder engagement.
Work included
Approximately 70% of the site has been remediated to applicable guidelines, with significant reductions in hydrocarbon concentrations. The selected approach minimized environmental disturbance and achieved an estimated cost savings of ~$6 million compared to conventional excavation.
