Emergency response and risk-based management of a produced water pipeline release in a forested right of way, supporting an accelerated and defensible path to closure.
Initial site data indicated salinity impacts extending beyond what could be attributed to the 2024 release. Historical information confirmed legacy impacts within the corridor, creating the need to separate current and historical conditions while maintaining regulatory alignment and efficient response.
Alta Tech led emergency response and delineation, integrating field screening, electromagnetic data, and historical review to distinguish recent impacts from legacy conditions.
Work included:
Excavation limits were defined based on the active release, while legacy impacts were documented separately for future evaluation.
All soil associated with the 2024 release met Tier 1 and Tier 2 guideline values following excavation. By separating legacy impacts from the active release, unnecessary soil removal was avoided, reducing costs and maintaining a defensible, risk-based approach to closure.
